graphite and steel

.

I hear the squeal far beyond the door

         graphite and steel

       curriers of commotion

        elsewhere

Not in here

they sneak in with slender light

hinting to the shroud of day

Here those sounds are filtered thru silence

              and shadow

Stillness holds the air

                 and the world is

                          far

                               far

                         away

 .

Lovely, cocooned inside, whilst the world spins

It’s always good to see a poem about silence or other abnormal sounds of life, and it’s strange to think that silence should become the abnormal thing. The intrusion of life into that silence should be the abnormal thing. Indeed, I’d like to keep graphite and steel outside my door also, but they always find some way of creeping in.

    excellent poem

I had to look currier up, it says someone who does the last bit of dressing of hide before it goes to the leathermaker. Very subtle and kind of haunting, just traces of being,
