The Prayer of Bearmom

Collaboration alert!  This wonderful piece is another by the uber talented Rick Mobbs.

The poem below is one I wrote for it.  Hooray!  (the crowd goes wild)

Farewell to father moon

Whilst in night he flies

He came and painted dew

He now seeks other skies

The spirit of the sun

She comes sprinkling light

The day has so begun

Emancipating night

The spirit of the Earth

Hair of gilded maize

Shares with all her worth

For the coming days

The Bearmom says a prayer to

All the spirits of the land

Shares with them her gratitude

Appreciation of her clan

The mothers hold their young

In rituals beginning day

Swathed in fabric long

Stitched as Bearmom prays

i am sooo enjoying ricks work.. i think it moves us all to veer off in directions we ordinarily wouldn’t… and this piece is a great example of that… i really enjoyed the read,, and the visual it provided as i looked deep into the painting…

This is lovely! The only suggestion i might make is to change “gilded maze” to “gilded maize” maybe a bit more aprpos the codex-like parchment feel of this image and our current societal obsession with corn and dependence upon corn. G

I love the bearmom, and the way you switched the genders of brother sun, sister moon. It is beautiful, oz, and captures the spirit of what I was trying to say. Funny how sometimes we don’t know what we are trying to say until we hear it said. It is a prayer…

    Thanks guys.
And I will change the word. That was actually what I meant to say, I probably misspelled it and spell check fixed it. Good proofreading on my part, eh?

you and rick are creating a new mythos; visual and verbal tales so rich that they have to be immortalized. Stories that tickle the subconscious and inspire dreams.
